Loudoun County Public Schools is Hiring a Lead Systems Engineer (Broadcast Technologies) Near Ashburn, VA

Position Overview

The Lead Systems Engineer (Broadcast Technologies) position plays a critical role as technology owners within the Department of Digital Information Infrastructure and Engineering team. The Lead Systems Engineer utilizes their skills, experience, and talent to recommend, design, implement, and support next generation technologies across the enterprise. 

This position designs server and audio visual solutions for live streaming, broadcast and media creation.

This role is imperative for the School board meetings, school-based live streaming and other district audio and video productions.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develops strategies and collaborates with technical and non-technical staff on core broadcast infrastructure projects and productions.
  • Maintains documentation on all systems, including diagrams, upgrade information, and change management information.
  • Supports Closed Captioning and transcription of meetings.
  • Installs and maintains the operating systems and broadcast equipment software and firmware.
  • Assists the support staff that deliver the productions.
  • Manages cloud based live streaming platforms.
  • Provides host support for School Board and committee meetings, which requires working evening hours.
  • Supports other technology and automation projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technology field and experience servicing computer systems, preferably in enterprise broadcast technologies.
  • Five years’ experience with developing and maintaining core systems; broadcast and/or livestreaming infrastructure is preferred.
  • Project management or event management experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service, organization, and communications skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into new technologies and determine fit for division.
  • Thorough knowledge of hardware and associated equipment and devices, specifically PTZ camera systems, mixers, DSP and routing, as applied to the requirements of Loudoun County Public Schools; of effective techniques of troubleshooting and resolving broadcast problems.
  • Experience leveraging server hardware, operating systems such as Windows Server 2016/2019, Active Directory, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and other protocols needed for systems communication.
  • Ability to install new audio visual equipment preferred.
  • Ability to train staff in the operation of broadcast equipment and software preferred.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or bend and may be required to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.

Telework Disclosure

Employees who perform the responsibilities of the above position have been identified as having the potential to telework. Telework is defined as completing one's duties and responsibilities at a site other than one's assigned duty location. In order to be eligible for telework privileges, an employee must have demonstrated consistent, positive performance and have the support and approval of their direct supervisor. In addition, these employees must have reliable high-speed internet and a designated workspace that allows them privacy while completing sensitive and confidential work. Employees who are non-exempt and are teleworking will work their required scheduled hours and gain approval from their supervisor if they work more than 8 hours a day or more than 40 hours in a workweek. Teleworking privileges can be amended, changed, or revoked based upon the performance of the employee, as well as the needs of Loudoun County Public Schools.
